After‑School Child Care Provider

Location: Discovery Days Preschool (Lowry, MN)
 

Pay: $15.00–$20.00 per hour, based on experience
 

Tentative Schedule:

  • Starting: Week of August 24th, 2026

  • Monday / Wednesday / Friday: 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM
    Tuesday / Thursday: 1:00 PM – 5:30 PM (start time could vary)

  • Opportunities for additional hours, including full‑day shifts, may be available on school holidays and other days when school is not in session.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who can consistently adhere to the scheduled hours and are available to pick up additional shifts, including full‑day hours, on school holidays and other non‑school days.

Position Summary

Discovery Days Preschool is seeking a caring, dependable, and engaged After‑School Child Care Provider to work with children ages 3–9 during after‑school hours. This role is responsible for independently supervising and engaging a small group of children in a safe, supportive environment that aligns with our play‑based philosophy and meets Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) licensing requirements.  The After‑School Child Care Provider is the sole adult present during scheduled hours and plays an important role in supporting children’s curiosity, independence, and sense of belonging at the end of the school day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the sole adult present during scheduled hours

  • Supervise and engage up to 10 children ages 3–9 during after‑school hours

  • Maintain active supervision at all times while working independently

  • Facilitate play, hands‑on activities, and creative exploration aligned with Discovery Days’ philosophy

  • Encourage problem‑solving, cooperation, and positive peer interactions

  • Support children’s independence while providing consistent structure and guidance

  • Use positive behavior guidance strategies consistent with center policy

  • Support safe transitions, including arrival, clean‑up, and dismissal

  • Maintain required attendance records and head counts

  • Respond to minor injuries or emergencies and administer basic first aid

  • Follow all health, safety, and supervision policies

  • Serve as a Mandated Reporter under Minnesota law

  • Communicate respectfully with families, teachers, and center leadership

 

Required Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Ability to pass a Minnesota DHS Background Study

  • Ability to work independently and supervise a group of children alone

  • Physical ability to actively supervise children during play and daily activities

 

Required Training

This position is classified as a staff person under Minnesota law and must meet DCYF training requirements for licensed child care centers. Required training includes:

Training Required Before Start Date

  • Pediatric First Aid

  • Pediatric CPR

  • Child Development and Learning (if not completed within the last two years)

 

Ongoing Training

  • Completion of required annual in‑service training hours as outlined by DCYF, prorated based on hours worked

  • Participation in recurring health, safety, and child development training topics as required by Minnesota statute
